DIY Sea Glass Crystal Earrings Beach Glass Jewelry Making Tutorial #421

Sea glass jewelry is uncommonly beautiful and the perfect accessory for hot summer days and cool, fun nights. These simple, but stunning sea glass earrings are both elegant and earthy, so they can be easily dressed up or down - making them the perfect go-to earrings for virtually any summer occasion. We’ll show you how to turn your treasured pieces of sea glass into gorgeous dangle earrings using classy wire-wraps that incorporate coordinating crystal bicones in the center for added pops of color, and extra sparkle and shine. Our earrings measure approximately 25mm long (not counting earwire), but your finished lengths will vary depending on the sizes of your sea glass.

And, don’t worry, making your own beach glass jewelry is not as hard as you might think, at least, not once you’ve been shown how. We’ve been drilling sea glass for years and have perfected our own technique over time that we feel is pretty simple, safe and successful. This detailed beading tutorial (which includes a thorough materials page with special notes section, color information, over 50 high-resolution full-color photos and easy to follow step-by-step directions), will teach you everything we know about how to drill sea glass, including what types of drill bits work best, how to safely drill the glass with minimal breakage, and how to turn your sea glass into beautiful jewelry you can proudly wear, share or even sell! You can enjoy making and wearing beautiful sea glass earrings whether you found your special pieces of beach glass in the sand or in a shop (you can even find pieces that have already been drilled for you if you don’t already own a Dremel or are not comfortable with drilling yourself). Be sure to check out our other fun and classy beach glass jewelry designs for cool summer coordinates. And, as always, thank you for shopping Simple Bead Patterns and bead happy!

The beading patterns offered on this website are written in English. We offer translated beading patterns in French, German, Italian, and Spanish on our Etsy shop - just look for images with country flags at the top.  Please note that all products are downloadable beading instructions that will teach you how to make the sample item shown above.  Nothing will be shipped to your physical address (as it is for downloadable instructions only and does not include any tangible materials or finished pieces of jewelry).

Each of our beading patterns includes a detailed Materials Page that clearly specifies everything you'll need on-hand to make the project (including bead types, sizes, and quantities, as well as any required tools and/or findings).  Each beading pattern features detailed, step-by-step instructions that are written in a clear, simple conversational style.  A full-color close-up photo accompanies each step showing exactly what's happening.

Instant PDF Download

Upon completion of your purchase, your new beading tutorial will be automatically and “instantly” delivered to your email address as a PDF (Portable Document Format) file which you can then download, open, and conveniently view (and/or print) on your computer or handheld device.  To learn more about our downloadable beading tutorials, including how to find and open your new beading pattern, please visit our "Help” section.

Recommended Materials:

  • Sea glass (drilled or un-drilled)
  • Crystals
  • Wire
  • Earwires
  • Flush cutter, chain nose pliers & round nose pliers
  • Optional - drilling supplies (Dremel and bits - details included in the tutorial), or use pre-drilled sea glass available online (Etsy, Ebay, etc.)

Materials & Quantities Needed

Your purchased beading tutorial will include a detailed materials list of everything you'll need to make this project, including quantities and, in most cases, color information (see more about Bead Color Information below).

Substituting with Different Beads or Beading Materials

Many of our designs can be made using comparable beading materials. For example, if our pattern calls for 4mm round pearls, in most cases, you can use different types of 4mm round beads instead (such as 4mm round fire polished beads). Please note: If the pattern is for a bead weaving (or stitched) project, it's typically not recommended to use different sizes of beads than those recommended, as the original design may not work out as intended. You may also substitute recommended materials with your preferred brand (for example using Nymo vs. FireLine thread) unless otherwise noted for a specific reason. For example, if we specifically recommend using TOHO seed beads with a particular project, the project may not work out as well if you substitute and use Delica seed beads instead (which differ in shape).

Bead Color Information

We provide detailed information about the bead colors used for each of the color samples shown above on the Bead Legend / Color Key (or similarly named page) in your purchased pattern. If the tutorial you purchased does not include detailed color information for a particular color sample we used, we apologize (a few of our earliest patterns did not include this information and we no longer have those beads to reference, or they were discontinued by the manufacturer). If this is the case, please feel free to contact us and we'll do our best to provide you with general color descriptions. Be sure to let us know which particular color sample you're most interested in.
