Beaded Bird Earrings Necklace Pin Brooch Square Stitch Beading Pattern #403

If you’re a bird lover, then this one’s for you! We truly enjoy watching birds around our home, and love art and decor that celebrate these precious little companions (we have all manner of friendly fowl decorating our home). We purposefully designed this super versatile beading pattern so that it could be stitched up as either a cardinal and/or a blue jay - for twice the fun! And, you can make a veritable flock of finely feathered jewelry and decor just by changing the size of the seed beads you use! We’ll show you how to stitch up each color scheme and finish off each project differently to ensure your complete success! This value-packed tutorial will teach you how to make:

Elegant Earrings: Stitch your birds up with 15/0 seed beads for charming little bird earrings and/or a delicate pendant on a thin chain. The 15/0 seed bead birds measure approximately 2” wide by 3.25” tall (5 x 8.2 cm).

A Perfect Pendant Necklace: Use 11/0 seed beads for a slightly larger pendant that measures approximately 1” wide x 1.75” tall (2.5 x 4.4 cm) and hang your beaded bird from a simple chain for a fabulous necklace.

A Beautiful Brooch: 8/0 seed beads are the perfect size for a beaded bird brooch measuring approximately 1.5” wide x 2.5” tall (3.8 x 6.3 cm).

Ornate Ornaments: For a super lovely keepsake Christmas tree ornament, or rear view mirror dangle for your car, use 6/0 seed beads for a nice 2” wide by 3.25” tall (5 x 8.2 cm) cardinal or blue jay. Every Christmas tree should have birds in it!

This simple beading pattern includes a detailed materials page, color information, over 130 high-resolution full-color photos and easy to follow step-by-step directions. You’ll get a lot of use out of this pattern as the various sizes of beaded birds are quite lovely and make wonderful accessories for yourself and your bird-loving friends and family members. Thank you for shopping Simple Bead Patterns, and bead happy!

What's Included

The beading patterns offered on this website are written in English. We offer translated beading patterns in French, German, Italian, and Spanish on our Etsy shop - just look for images with country flags at the top.  Please note that all products are downloadable beading instructions that will teach you how to make the sample item shown above.  Nothing will be shipped to your physical address (as it is for downloadable instructions only and does not include any tangible materials or finished pieces of jewelry).

Each of our beading patterns includes a detailed Materials Page that clearly specifies everything you'll need on-hand to make the project (including bead types, sizes, and quantities, as well as any required tools and/or findings).  Each beading pattern features detailed, step-by-step instructions that are written in a clear, simple conversational style.  A full-color close-up photo accompanies each step showing exactly what's happening.

  • Seed beads
  • Findings (end clasps and such) to finish off each project
  • Flush cutter and chain nose pliers

Materials & Quantities Needed

Your purchased beading tutorial will include a detailed materials list of everything you'll need to make this project, including quantities and, in most cases, color information (see more about Bead Color Information below).

Substituting with Different Beads or Beading Materials

Many of our designs can be made using comparable beading materials. For example, if our pattern calls for 4mm round pearls, in most cases, you can use different types of 4mm round beads instead (such as 4mm round fire polished beads). Please note: If the pattern is for a bead weaving (or stitched) project, it's typically not recommended to use different sizes of beads than those recommended, as the original design may not work out as intended. You may also substitute recommended materials with your preferred brand (for example using Nymo vs. FireLine thread) unless otherwise noted for a specific reason. For example, if we specifically recommend using TOHO seed beads with a particular project, the project may not work out as well if you substitute and use Delica seed beads instead (which differ in shape).

Bead Color Information

We provide detailed information about the bead colors used for each of the color samples shown above on the Bead Legend / Color Key (or similarly named page) in your purchased pattern. If the tutorial you purchased does not include detailed color information for a particular color sample we used, we apologize (a few of our earliest patterns did not include this information and we no longer have those beads to reference, or they were discontinued by the manufacturer). If this is the case, please feel free to contact us and we'll do our best to provide you with general color descriptions. Be sure to let us know which particular color sample you're most interested in.
